The new four-legged robot will be available as a kit at a reasonable and moderate price. It enables a huge variety of research possibilities for application like in autonomous robot soccer in RoboCup but also far beyond due to its extended and improved motion and sensing capabilities and its open and reconfigurable hardware and software. The modular hardware design also facilitates a cost and time effective repair and maintenance by the user.
The robot also has a high stability of value as many components can be reused for other robot designs, e.g., the main computer, the microcontroller board, the camera or the other sensors. Due to its open and modular design, the robot also serves as an ideal platform for introductory and advanced courses in robotics, embedded systems and artificial intelligence. After having studied and experimented successfully with the new four-legged robot very different own, powerful robot designs can be developed where many parts of the hard- and software of the new four-legged robot can be reused.
